to Observe or not to Observe ?

January 22, 2011

Aloha and good morning ~ from Maui, Hawaii.

We’re growing !! more and more FOOD as well as population.  Hmmm.  How well do we do this?  To accommodate the growing population with food for all?

Well, the question above, answers it for us, if we took the TIME to LISTEN and WATCH – – how Nature works and moves.
The Nature of our Land, the Nature of ourSelves.  Why is this interesting to  me, as a Health Guide and a Nature Guide?  There is no separation.  As above, So Below.

What I mean is, that by observing Nature in a certain area for awhile, I can learn how the water flows, how the air moves through the trees or lack thereof, over bare ground and the results of all this biological movement.

Permaculturalists are not a new kid on the block, but it’s still a little known concept.  The interesting thing is that Hawaiians lived very closely, as most indigenous people did or do, to the principles embodied in Permaculture.  So HOW are we living life?  WHY are we economically and healthfully Challenged?  Not according to Nature and how it needs to move and change.  Have a look at a piece of ground somewhere and just watch it for a week or so and notice what works with what’s placed on it and what doesn’t.  ie:  the house is not facing in a direction to maximize the sunlight or the shade.  ie:  the trees are planted in a place that does not shield buildings or gardens from the prevailing winds.

So what does this have to do with Living Well and Light Journey Retreats?

In Hawaii, we cleanse our bodies, hence minds, through a guided week or two of certain elimination practices that clean out what we’ve put in that create dis-ease or ill health or overall sluggish-ness and more.  We also get out into Nature and immerse ourselves in her waters, her biosystems of forests or jungle.  In doing so, we start to NOTICE….notice what works and what feels good and what doesn’t.

We are embarking upon a new venture to share with those who can’t come to Hawaii to cleanse or be in our beautiful paradise nature.  Kids and youth here will be ‘reporting on’ what they find and how it affects them personally, as an individual and as a family unit.  Their perspective through good fact-finding and sharing their observations and conclusions.

Stay tuned – – we’re going deeper into what MATTERS ; about LIFE, LIBERTY, HEALTH, LOVE.

Be Well, Lahela
